Letter to Year 11 Parents – July 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that this letter finds you well in these uncertain times. This is a difficult time for all and the challenges that we are all facing are unprecedented. The last few months have been particularly challenging due to constantly changing Government guidelines and advice, particularly for our year 11 who had a very abrupt end to their time at Freddie’s.

As a school we have all still been working and I wanted to take this opportunity to update you all on a few things and to answer some questions that you may have. Firstly, for those pupils who have ordered hoodies these have been processed and we are expecting delivery of them during the summer holidays, you shall be contacted when they arrive in school and this message will also be shared on our Facebook page and website.

As promised, the year 11 prom is still planned to go ahead and has been rearranged to be in the form of a winter prom – on Friday 13th November I am still optimistic that this will be able to go ahead. The plan for this is as follows; The Venue will be Makeney Hall, Makeney Rd, Milford, Belper, DE56 0RS. The theme is White/Gold. The arrival time for your son and/or daughter will be from 7pm onwards and they will be expected to be off site by 11.30pm.

You may wish to make provisional bookings for car hire etc, please note that the school cannot be held liable for any expense occurred in case of cancellation that is beyond our control.

Leavers day however has not been scheduled yet, it is hoped that something could be in place in the Autumn term, but how this will look is still uncertain. Initially when the Year 11 left, this looked very likely to happen, however, as you will be well aware the Government guidelines are ever changing and our priority is and shall remain to ensure the safety of all our staff, pupils and the wider community. I shall be in touch if and when we are able to safely allow a leavers assembly to take place.

Finally, as you should already be aware, Year 11 results day this year will take place on Thursday 20th August 2020. The results will be emailed to your child at 8am on GCSE results day and then you will have the opportunity to request a zoom meeting for your child with the year 11 team. Please ensure that your child is able to log into their school email address and if you have any issues please contact school as a matter of urgency to avoid any delay to your child receiving their GCSE results.

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and the year 11 tutor team to say a huge thank you to all Parents/Carers for your support over the last five years. I am tremendously proud to have had the privilege of being the Achievement Leader for this year group and it has been an honour to see them grow and develop into the amazing young adults that they have become.

The year tutors, myself, and all staff as a whole are beyond saddened to have been unable to give the year 11’s the true send-off that they deserve, and I sincerely hope that the pupils keep in touch and keep us updated on their future endeavours.

Tutors are also currently preparing farewell messages for their tutees and these shall be uploaded to Show My Homework and our school Facebook page in early July, finally we all hope to see your child at the prom in November and at the annual presentation evening.

Please continue to keep an eye on the Facebook group and on the school website for letters and updates.

The school office is still open for you to contact via phone and you can also email the office any queries you may have. If your son and/or daughter needs some guidance in relation to options at Post 16, Ms Jenkinson is also available, so please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Please continue to take care of yourselves and I hope to see you all soon!

Yours Sincerely

Miss S Mahmood – Achievement Leader Year 11
